Sydney, Cape Breton – Rare pieces of artwork will be auctioned at the second annual event titled "Pane in the Glass" at the Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design 3rd Floor loft this Thursday, September 8th, 2011. These one-of-a-kind pieces have been created by well-known local artists who have generously donated their work in support of theGaelic College.
The auction is a part of the annual fundraising activities for the Gaelic College that raises funds for education and programming. This year, the Presenting Sponsor is LaFosse MacLeod, Barristers and Solicitors; a local law firm in Sydney and Jost Wines has also generously donated beverages for the event. LeeAnne MacLeod-Archer of LaFosse MacLeod says, "We are very proud to sponsor this fundraiser. It will be a great evening with entertainment and the chance to take home an original work by well known artists."
Featured at the auction will be works by Bill Rogers, Nora Gross, Carol Kennedy, Beverly Niven and many other artists who have taken part in the Pane in the Glass. Bill Rogers says "I have had a long relationship with the Gaelic College and I am only too happy to help out with a work for the Pane in the Glass fund raiser." There are also a few up and coming young artists presenting works at the event.
"The quality of the work and the final product is outstanding", says Maureen Carroll,Chair of the Board of Governors of the Gaelic College Foundation. Carroll notes, "The out pouring of support from the artists is overwhelming and the number of windows donated has exceeded our expectations".
Along with wine and hors d'oeuvres, there will be performances by harpist Jenny Tingley and fiddle player Jennifer Roland. During the evening, Allan Henderson will be the auctioneer and there will also be a silent auction for smaller glass works.
