ST. ANN'S — Members of the Gaelic College Foundation will be able to meet the college's new chief executive officer during an upcoming annual general meeting. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m., in the MacKenzie Hall of the Gaelic College in St. Ann's.

All who are interested in supporting the mission of the college are welcome to become member of the foundation and attend the meeting. Foundation membership is $15 per year.
The meeting will provide an opportunity to meet new CEO Rodney MacDonald and the new director of education and programming, Tracey Dares MacNeil.
There have also been new appointments to the board of governors over the past year and elections will be held for two seats on the board. Reports will be presented on past and future plans for the college.
The Gaelic College Foundation was formed in 1938, by a group of citizens from Baddeck led by the Rev. A.W.R. MacKenzie, a Presbyterian minister born on the Isle of Skye, Scotland, who had immigrated to Canada. The mandate of the foundation is to promote, preserve and perpetuate through studies in all related areas - the culture, music, language, arts, crafts, customs and traditions of immigrants from the highlands of Scotland.
Gaelic College curriculum now includes more than 12 different disciplines including Gaelic language, great highland bagpipes, Cape Breton fiddle, highland dance, Scottish small pipes, weaving, Cape Breton step dance, Celtic harp, bodhran, pipe band drumming, Gaelic song and piano accompaniment.
In 2013, the Gaelic College will celebrate its 75th anniversary which will be marked by special events and cultural celebrations.
