This series is entitled "Beul an Tobair" (the mouth of the well) to reflect the richness and depth of the Gaelic language and tradition.
About the Series
The Beul An Tobair series includes the Introductory course "Beul An Tobair I" and the Intermediate course "Beul An Tobair II".
Each course in the Beul An Tobair series is made up of 12 LESSONS.
Each lesson includes:
- A conversation between two or more Gaelic speakers and a vocabulary of the words they use within the conversation. This allows the student to learn the words and to see them used in a natural context.
- Extensive notes on grammar and idiom help the student understand the workings of the language.
- Additional material relating to Gaelic idioms and expressions:
- Tha boinne am beul na gaoithe
- Literal Translation - A drop is in the mouth of the wind.
- Colloquial English - It feels like rain.
- Exercises for the student to complete and to submit to the instructor for correction.
Test your comprehension with
- True or False questions relating to the conversations contained in each lesson.
Learn to express yourself in Gaelic
- Translating from Gaelic to English
- Translating from English to Gaelic
- Compose descriptive passages that talk about you and your experience

Course Objectives
Our Objective is to provide students with as rich a learning experience as we possibly can using all the various tools that the Internet provides.
Beul An Tobair I
Upon completion of Beul An Tobair I the student will:
- Possess basic Gaelic conversation skills
- Be able to listen to a conversation between Gaelic speakers and understand words, phrases, and basic sentences.
- Engage in a basic conversation with Gaelic speakers - understand what is being said, and be understood in turn.
- Capture the sounds and cadence of the Gaelic language
- Have six Gaelic songs, in his/her repertoire to share with friends
Beul An Tobair II
Upon completion of Beul An Tobair II the student will:
- Possess intermediate Gaelic conversation skills
- Be able to listen to conversation between Gaelic speakers and understand a great deal of what is said.
- Engage in a basic conversation with Gaelic speakers - understand what is being said, and be understood in turn.
- Engage in conversation at a more advanced level with Gaelic speakers - understand what is being said, and be understood in turn.
- Capture the sounds and cadence of the Gaelic language
- Have six more Gaelic songs in his/her repertoire to share with friends
Audio
Over 1600 Audio Files bring the spoken language to life.
Each lesson contains separate audio clips of each sentence in the conversation as well as each word in the vocabulary allowing students to hear the sounds and the cadence of natural speech.
All sound files are in MP3 format and can be downloaded quickly on any Internet connection.
6 Traditional Gaelic Songs with accompanying audio files allow you to hear and to learn the songs as sung by traditional Gaelic singers. Accompanying notes provide detailed explanations of words, phrases and idioms in the songs.

SEÒMAR SEANACHAIS (Conversation Room) MESSAGE BOARD:
A private, searchable message board enabling students to practice their Gaelic in E-mail conversations with other students and/or the instructor. Your instructor will monitor the list daily and help the students along. Students can use 'the list' to ask specific questions of the instructor and receive individual or group assistance. Whether you wish to discuss some aspect of the course or talk about the weather, the Message Board is open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
A handy, comprehensive Search Engine is included to allow students to search the complete Beul an Tobair Gaelic Language Course for Gaelic and English words and phrases.
A FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page contains the answers to many common problems and is constantly updated.

Registration Fees:
The registration fee Beul An Tobair I is $350.00 Canadian (all taxes included).
The registration fee Beul An Tobair II is $425.00 Canadian (all taxes included).
Students are entitled to study the course for six months from the date of activation. Extersions may be granted by your instructor.
Credits
The Beul An Tobair series was developed by Gaelic instructor and singer Angus MacLeod, with guidance from Hector MacNeil, Gaelic Program Director at the Gaelic College and member of the part-time faculty, Cape Breton University, (CBU).
Catrìona Parsons, St. F.X. University, and Virginia Mac Leod, Halifax, appear in the recordings of the conversations and vocabularies for "Beul An Tobair l". Ar ceud taing dhaibh airson an cuideachaidh.
